Overcoming Fears….

Today I finally decided to face my fears…  I had 2 swimming lessons at American Family Fitness. One at 9:30am, then another at 4:30pm. And I’ll repeat the same schedule tomorrow. I am learning how to swim in water…….. and in life. And it feels damn good. I’ve always been afraid of drowning. It’s something about knowing that the bottom of the pool isnt in standing distance that just scares the fuck out of me. I instantly panic when the bottom isnt reachable. I want to overcome this fear. First step is to learn how to do the basics. Second step, is to learn how to tread water. And treading water seems like one of the most important, yet hardest steps to learn.  I can swim from one side of the pool to the other, but not without stopping. I always stop, midway & stand to catch my breath, then continue. However, I cant do that past 4 ft. I’d instantly panic, then potentially drown. :(  If i absolutely have to stop midway to catch a breather & im in deep waters, treading is what would take place. Treading is an “aspect of swimming that involves a swimmer staying in a vertical position in the water while keeping his or her head above the surface of the water. Treading water provides the swimmer an opportunity to keep the head from becoming submerged while not providing sufficient directional thrust to overcome inertia and propel the swimmer in any specific direction.” And its hard as FUCK!!! Thats definitely gonna be the main agenda for tomorrow.
